Aiming to support and award dynamic Ethiopian entrepreneurs looking to scale up their existing businesses, Ethiopia’s Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) has announced the launch of the latest edition of the Ethiospur Business Plan Competition.
The competition, which is open to micro and small businesses operating in any industry sector, offers a range of benefits to the competition’s final winners, including up to 500,000 birr in funding, networking opportunities, media exposure, training, and expert advice.
To be eligible to participate in the competition, applicants must be Ethiopian citizens, be the majority owners of their businesses, operate with a formal business license, and have 0–50 employees. Businesses must also be at least one year old with a corresponding revenue history.
The application process consists of five sections, including a cover page, lead applicant profile, business profile, current business performance, and the business expansion plan. The application can be submitted in English, Amharic, or Afaan Oromo and can be filled out online or downloaded and completed offline.
EDI, an autonomous institution reporting to the newly established Ministry of Labor and Skills, launched the first Ethiospur Business Plan Competition in 2019, in which the Top 5 winners, shared the 840,000 birr prize pool.
The application deadline for the current edition of the Ethiospur Business Plan Competition is February 28, 2023, and the first-round winners will be announced by May 25, 2023. To apply, click here.
